ARC Review: The Love Letters of Abelard and Lily by Laura Creedle

Hello lovely people! I hope you are all having an amazing and wonderful day today😊
Today I’ll share my thoughts about a book that I recently read and really, REALLY, liked =) that book is The Love Letters of Abelard and Lily ❤

First I would like to thank HMHTeen for sending me and ARC of The Love Letters of Abelard and Lily in exchange of a honest review.

The Love Letters of Abelard and Lily immediately catched my attention when I saw it on GoodReads. I thought the cover looked super cute and after reading the synopsis I immediately added it to my TBR, plus that book title?! It definitely sounded like a book I would enjoy ❤️

This story focuses on Lily who has ADHD and Abelard who has Autism. Their story started with a broken door, a trip to the principal´s office and a stolen kiss. Soon they find themselves sending texts to each other with phrases from “The Letters of Abelard and Heloise” and they fall in love with each other *swoons* the texts were so romantic guys, and we could really see the chemistry between these two characters❤️

This story was told from Lily’s Point of View. We get to know her, how she struggles in school, her life with her mom and sister, her best friend and of course her relationship with Abelard. Lily thinks she is broken. She finds herself breaking things when she doesn’t mean to, she looses track of time and acts on her impulses. She also stopped taking her meds for a while. She didn’t feel like herself when she took them, and so now and then, she pretends to take them so her mother doesn’t notice, but then her mother notices and now she has to take them again. Lily´s mother was someone who clearly wanted to do the right thing for her daughter and I admired her. She worried for Lily and checked on her all the time, there where times where we could see how Lily didn’t feel comfortable about this, there were some scenes where I didn’t like how she acted toward her mother and it broke my heart because her mom really wanted to help her and do what was best for her. But then again I kind of understood why she acted that way, she   felt pressured sometimes, not understood, I am glad how their relationship improved at the end ❤️

Lily can be herself when she’s with Abelard❤️ They both understand each other and support each other. Abelard is super intelligent and the fact that he always supported Lily, loved her impulses and thinks she isn´t broken as she thinks she is, warmed my heart. While this story was told from Lily´s POV I liked that we still knew what was happening in Abelard’s life.

During the story Abelard gets admitted into the Issac Institute. He didn’t wanted to go because that would meant leaving Lily behind and since Lily knew that was an amazing opportunity for Abelard he lied to him and told him she was moving with her dad. There were some ups and downs, the fact that they didn’t see each other in school the way they used to and messaged each other affected their relationship. But they make it work a the end ❤️ and it’s worth it.

This book was hard to put down. I really didn’t want this story to end. The ending was something that I didn’t expect though. I thought it was going to end in a different way and that was one of the main reasons I gave this book 4.3 stars. However, the author did an amazing job, I really liked her writing style and the fact that this book was an own voice book, made me like it even more. I highly recommend this book, it is definitely one of the best books I have read this year.

I hope you guys like this book as much as I did, can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Rebeca xoxo

  1. Lovely review! I’ve had The Love Letters of Abelard and Lily on my TBR since last year but I wasn’t able to get my hands on a arc. I will definitely add this to my cart now lol. The representation seems positive & I love that they share an interest in ancient love letters, sounds so romantical (totally made up word lol) 🙂
